In Sagrada, players compete over ten rounds to build the most magnificent stained glass window facade. Each player receives a personal window frame board and a patterned grid card that slots beneath it, defining the difficulty level and specific restriction spaces for color and value. The vibrant 4x5 grid represents your evolving masterpiece, which you will carefully assemble die by die.
The core gameplay relies on an elegant drafting mechanic. At the start of each round, the active player rolls a pool of vibrant, translucent six-sided dice determined by the player count. Taking turns in a snake draft, players select a die from the rolled pool and place it strategically into their window. However, the cathedral demands perfection: dice must adhere to strict placement rules. Your first die must touch an outer edge, and all subsequent dice must be placed adjacent to previously placed dice—orthogonally or diagonally. Crucially, orthogonally adjacent dice can never share the same color or number value, turning every placement decision into an engaging spatial challenge.
To overcome restrictive patterns and tight layouts, players can spend their limited supply of favor tokens to activate Tool cards. These dynamic abilities allow you to bend the standard placement rules by moving dice, rerolling the drafting pool, or adjusting die values. Victory is calculated at the end of the tenth round through a combination of public objectives—which reward players for crafting rows or sets of distinct shades and hues—and secret private objectives tailored to your personal artistic vision.
